At ThePit.com, We Love to Trade DOWN!

Recently, we worked out a trade with a customer who wanted to acquire one of our high-end Tom Brady rookie cards. Here at ThePit.com, we are always open to trades that even out in market value, even if we’re the ones taking the lesser-value cards.  ThePit has long been the best place for collectors to “trade up” to a card that they really want in a win-win transaction for both sides.

Here is that trade and what cards it involved.

Customer Received:
Tom Brady 2000 Upper Deck Pros and Prospects PSA 10

Customer Traded to us:
Tom Brady 2000 Bowman BGS 9
Mickey Mantle 1959 Topps PSA 4
Walter Payton 1976 Topps PSA 8.5 RC
Ray Nitschke 1963 Topps PSA 8 RC

Because of this trade, a sports card collector was able to trade up to a better Tom Brady rookie card than he had. On our end, we get another graded Tom Brady card, an affordable Mickey Mantle card, a high-grade rookie card of Walter Payton, and a rookie card of NFL Hall-of-Famer Ray Nitschke that we never had on the site before. We love these win-win trades!

At ThePit.com, our high-end cards are always available in trade for any other cards listed on our exchange.  Such trading creates market liquidity, which leads to further trading. We’ll also trade for cards that we would like to add to ThePit, such as the Nitschke PSA 8 rookie card. We don’t mind trading one high-grade rookie card or vintage card for two or more high-grade rookies or vintage cards that we feel are good picks for our index.

In our experience, most dealers (and most collectors, for that matter) won’t “trade down”, or they’ll do so only if they get a significant premium (say 15%+) in value on their side of the deal.  Complicated trades take time, and dealers understandably want to be compensated for giving up a marquee card for a handful of medium-tier collectibles. But thePit’s trading software eliminates this “time and effort” hurdle.  If you make the effort to sell or list your items on thePit, you can reap the rewards of cards you otherwise couldn’t afford -- and with *no* value discount!

No amount of cards is too large for Pit trading, and no value is too small.  When you send your cards to ThePit, we won’t complain if you send 5,000 cards with an average value of $1 (though it may take us a few days to check them all in to your account). If you were to sell all of those cards in your portfolio on ThePit, you would then have $5,000 Pit Trade Credits to turn around and spend on one or more high-end graded sports cards you’ve only dreamed of owning. That’s an extreme example, but while we’re happy to trade down, you can either trade up or trade down depending on what you’re trying to do with your card collecting.

By sending your cards to ThePit.com, you can buy and sell with ease. But, we’re also happy to trade! Just check our bids and asks. We strive to maintain active, reasonable prices on a consistent basis.

What card would you love to trade up into for your collection?
